PHARMACY HOLDUP OVER 'CHILL PILLS'
Date: 15-Jun-2008
Author: David Killick
A WOMAN made an unsuccessful attempt to rob a Hobart pharmacy because she was out of anti-anxiety medication, a court has heard.
Anna Ruth Clinch, 28, of North Hobart, pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated armed robbery in the Supreme Court in Hobart today.
Crown Prosecutor Allison Shand told the court Clinch went to the Augusta Road Pharmacy in Lenah Valley on March 14 with a man.
Ms Clinch's accomplice produced a 10cm steak knife and the pair demanded three bottles of Alprazolam, the court heard.
But the pharmacist told the pair she would not supply the drugs without a prescription, and they fled on foot.
Police arrested the pair about a kilometre away.
Defence lawyer Marc Edwards said his client was an educated and industrious woman who committed the crime as an act of desperation.
He noted that no actual violence was used and that Ms Clinch's time in jail after her arrest had been a sobering experience for her.
Justice David Porter remanded Clinch in custody for sentencing on Friday.
