CLASS and MECHANISM of Action
Generic "Seroquel" is the first in a new class of antipsychotic medications.
Generic "Seroquel" is an antipsychotic medication. It works by changing the actions of chemicals in the brain.
Illnesses that affect the brain may be due to certain chemicals in the brain (dopamine and serotonin) being out of balance. These imbalances may be the cause of some of the symptoms that patients experience. Doctors and scientists are not sure what causes these imbalances to occur.
It is thought that Generic "Seroquel" helps to create a better balance of these brain chemicals. Although Generic "Seroquel" will not cure the disorder, it can help patients manage their symptoms and help them feel better. In order to work properly, Generic "Seroquel" must be taken every day as instructed by the doctor, even if a patient's symptoms have improved or disappeared.
Active Ingredients: Quetiapine
Inactive Ingredients: sodium starch glycolate, lactose monohydrate, polyethylene glycol, povidone, dibasic dicalcium phosphate dihydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, and titanium dioxide.
What is Generic "Seroquel" PRESCRIBED For?
Generic "Seroquel" is prescribed for the treatment of schizophrenia, a mental disorder marked by delusions (false beliefs), hallucinations, disrupted thinking, and loss of contact with reality. It is also used for the short-term treatment of mania associated with bipolar disorder.
How Should I Take Generic "Seroquel"?
Generic "Seroquel" is taken as tablets. The daily dose is adjusted for each patient’s needs. Your doctor will advise you on the duration of therapy.
You must take it every day, exactly as your doctor tells you. Expect your symptoms to start improving slowly within the first few weeks of treatment but it takes time to feel better. You should not stop taking Generic "Seroquel" or change the times you take it without talking to a doctor.
You may take Generic "Seroquel" with or without food. It is advisable, however, to swallow the tablets with water without chewing.= Because Generic "Seroquel" must be taken twice a day, it is better to take it at two fixed times, for example in the morning and in the evening before bedtime.
Store Generic "Seroquel" tablets at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
What are the CONTRAINDICATIONS for taking Generic "Seroquel"?
If Generic "Seroquel" gives you an allergic reaction, you will not be able to use this drug. Generic "Seroquel" can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Dizziness may be more likely to occur when you rise from a sitting or lying position. Rise slowly to prevent dizziness and a possible fall. Avoid drinking alcohol, which can increase some of the side effects of Generic "Seroquel". Avoid using other medicines that make you sleepy (such as cold medicine, pain medication, muscle relaxers, and medicine for seizures, depression or anxiety). They can add to sleepiness caused by Generic "Seroquel".
Avoid becoming overheated or dehydrated. Drink plenty of fluids, especially in hot weather and during exercise. It is easier to become dangerously overheated and dehydrated while you are taking Generic "Seroquel".
What Happens if I MISS A DOSE?
Do not take a double dose of this medication unless your doctor directs otherwise. If you miss a dose take it as soon as possible but if it's high time for the next dose just skip the missed one and continue your usual schedule.
What Happens if I OVERDOSE?
